iROOM Interactive Installation

The iRoom is a room-sized interactive video installation which visually and physically addresses many of the issues encountered while working on modern consumer computers. The current trajectory of technological development, making everything streamlined and portable, is juxtaposed by the imposing and awkwardly bulky size of the piece. To interact with the iRoom, the user presses one of the many oversized keys in the confusing pile of an interface, and the large face on the screen spouts a different commonly encountered error message. The face is metallic and silvery, as is the tone of the voice. The piece was installed in a small office in the UVA McIntire Deparment of Art's Rugby Road Offices. It was presented in front of a group of art faculty and students as a final project for Christina Hung's Advanced Digital Art class on Tuesday, May 10, 2005.
